Alfred Wedge

WEDGE - Alfred "Al" J. Wedge, of Grandville, MI, aged 90 passed away peacefully to his eternal home Friday, February 17, 2017. He was preceeded in death by his parents Joseph (Alfred) and Esther Wedge; sister, Mary Ann Story. Surviving are: his sister, Helen Brant; daughters, Mary (Mike) Dies, Marie (Luke) Smith; grandchildren, Aleesha Grawey, Sarah Dies, David Dies, Nick Dies, Lukas Smith; great grandchildren, Eden Grawey, Liam Grawey, Evelyn Grawey; and also many nieces and nephews. Al was known for his signature cowboy hat, outgoing personality and was a friend to all. For many years he was a sponsor at AA and helped many people. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Grand Rapids First Church in the prayer chapel, 2100 44th Street SW, Wyoming MI. A reception will follow the service at 12:00 PM. I met Al 7 years ago and I would like to think of him as a friend of mine. He and I had many chances to talk as I would give him rides to the South Club. He spoke highly and often of his family. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a well read man and shared his learnings with me. He would say in meetings He was on a journey of recovery. He was the first person to speak to me at my first meeting. He will always be in my heart.

I will never forget at Marie and Luke's wedding, the tuxedo rental had given me too small of a coat, it was nearly bursting at the seams. Then Alfred comes in wearing this huge coat, he is just drowning in it. Obviously the rental company had switched our coats, but neither puff is realized it. We're standing next to each other and everyone starts laughing and taking our picture and we have no idea why. It was hilarious.

I always found Al to have a smile on his face, he was a kindhearted man, who I am sure helped many people in his life. His biggest joy in life were his children. He was so proud of you girls, although you make everyone proud to have known you both. I am glad he lived a long happy life He was a good person. Rest easy Al, till we all meet again.

Mary,Marie and families and the Wedge family I am so sorry for your loss. Al was one of the most positive men I have ever known and he always had a positive spin on everything. I was so happy that I was able to attend his 90th birthday party…he was glowing with happiness!!! He was so proud of his family! R I P Al…...you certainly deserve it…...
