PHILLIPS - Erika Marie Phillips age 33 passed away June 7, 2017. She is survived by her mother, Pamela (Dave) Gioia-Minnema; father, Edwin (JoAnn Ventre) Phillips; grandmother, Mary Gioia; children, Alyssa Jade Geskus and Jayden Alan Vandrunen; brothers, Stephen (Chelsea) Phillips, Lawrence Minnema, Edwin Phillips Jr.; sisters, Margaret Minnema, Mary Minnema, Rachelle Phillips, Courtney Wilson; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; steadfast friend, Jeremy Chivis. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday June 13, 2017 at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 3131 S. Division Ave., Wyoming. Her family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday June 12 and one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for her children. Checks may be left at the funeral chapel and should be written to Pamela Gioia-Minnema. I knew Erika when we were kids and we haven't spoken in years which makes this news all the more tragic. I actually Googled her name just to see if anything would come up, I was hoping for happy pictures of her and a family because that's what she deserved. The Erika I knew was the funniest most energetic person I had ever met and brought laughter and fun every where she went. There was another side to her not everyone got to see, she could also be the most gentle, caring, and sweetest person in the world. That's the Erika I know, to her family I am truly sorry for your loss, she will be missed by many for years to come.

Pam, I remember Erica very vividly when I first met you when we went to the migrant camps. We stopped at Sue's house, she must have been watching Steven and Erica. Someone asked how old I was. I was 19. Erica exclaimed, "Mom, I didn't know you knew a teenager!" It still makes me smile. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Your grief must be tremendous. Prayers for you and all her family.
