Lavonne J. Horwath died peacefully at Trillium Woods on October 02, 2017. She was born in Sioux City, IA on June 3, 1929 the youngest of nine children to the late Frank E. and Albertina (Brisso) Morris. She was preceded in death by her 7 sisters, 2 brothers and her devoted husband of 56 years, Joseph Horwath in February 2004. She was the loving mother of Terry (Jean)Horwath, Greg Horwath and Cindy (Larry) Newman; dear grandmother of Matt Ebert, Garth (Christy) Newman, Shawn Horwath, Chris Horwath and great grandmother of Bailey Newman, Trey Newman and Craig Ryan Watt. LaVonne moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1947 where she met and married Joe and raised their children. She retired from ConAgra in 1992. In 2005 she moved to Covenant Village of the Great Lakes in Grand Rapids, MI. to be closer to her daughter Cindy, and was thrilled when her son Terry also moved here the following year. Over the years she successfully fought and won many health challenges and to her family was fondly referred to as the “Energizer Bunny”. It was hard to believe this petite, lovely lady could be so fiercely independent and full of strength and determination. She shared a special bond with her precious cat, Jasmine and was saddened by her loss in 2015. Her competitive spirit allowed her to score multiple 300 games in Wii bowling and was the victor of many Rummikub matches. She enjoyed volunteer work at 2nd Blessing and helping with the church bulletin. Her energetic zest for life kept her active and living life to the fullest until the last several weeks of her 88 years. Her family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Covenant Village and Faith Hospice. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Covenant Village at 2510 Lake MI Drive NW, Grand Rapids, MI. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice (Byron Center) or the Benevolent Fund of Covenant Village (Grand Rapids). Aunt LaVonne was a beautiful woman with a great sense of humor. Enjoyed hearing the stories of jokes she played on her Dad and even the local weatherman! She will be missed by all who knew her.
