Hello to you Linda and Tim,  Do you remember me? Patti Phillips (VanderVelde). I read the beautiful tributes to Jack.  I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I know God will wrap his arms around you and hold you. I do remember all of you. Fun times on Michael that is for sure. When I went through moms things I found the game of rummy royal. Linda you and Mom played this i am sure. Remined me of the fun times you used to have. As well as those New Years partys.  I am thinking of you. Your in my Prayers..  Hugs to everyone,  Patti

Jack and Linda were the coolest couple I had ever met. I was drawn to them immediately!! They were soo funny, each one bouncing off the other. The comebacks were tip-top. They made people laugh and brightened the room with their humor, even when the crowd was less than jovial.  We started meeting for lunch at our favorite place and we would look forward to that once a month (or as often as we could make it). That was always the highlight for me. They had a lot of health issues, too many as far as I was concerned, but they rose above the pain to touch others with their stories.  They were also very warm and sincere. You could tell they truly cared about others around them. The Love of Jesus shined through their faces. They were compassionate.. They had been through a lot, so they could be there for anyone else suffering. These attributes made all of us better!!  When Jack went into Pilgrim Manor, we prayed it would just be for a while and he could go home again. They had been together every day for SO many years. They were SO good together!! It was a tough time for Linda. They would still talk every day, but it wasn't the same by any means.  Her life changed dramatically as she was now the only one in her household. She had to learn how to do a lot what Jack used to do. I can't even imagine how lonely it was for her. New problems were showing up in Jack's mental and physical health. He was having more difficulty doing normal daily things.  He went to the hospital for what we hoped would be a short stay and one thing led to another. His health rapidly declined, and then he was gone.. I have always prayed for the two of them, and now pray four times more for my sweet friend Linda. God is with her, closer than ever.. She is still in shock.  There are two loved ones who have been with her 24/7…one is their dear son, Tim, and their daughter-in-law, Lisa. Linda said yesterday how much they have been there for her. One thing that thrilled all of us is that Tim and Lisa now live very close to Linda so they can see each other more often.  I love you always and forever, Linda, and I am here for you..  Kath

I worked at Porter Hills and always looked forward to seeing Jack every time I showed up for work. Jack just radiated joy. He filled the lives of the staff and other residents with laughter. He was exceptionally compassionate, patient, and selfless. I will miss him greatly. -Emma Henkel
