When I remember Al it will be as my upper bowl cohort, helping me watch for people drinking too much in 222,especially on $1 and then $2 beer nights for the Griffins. We had a system perfected and had some laughs doing it too.He has been and always will be greatly missed. While you’re up there in hockey heaven ask God to do something about those Red Wings, will you Al?RIP,my friend.

Al was a wonderful person who radiated happiness. I worked with him at SpartanNash and saw him at many of the company wine tasting fundraisers. I'm very sorry for your loss and will continue to pray for you & your family. May God bless you all & bring you comfort.

Al was one of the first people to make me feel comfortable when I started in the mailroom at Spartan. He was just a decent and kind man who had the best laugh. So glad I had the chance to know him. Linda Porritt

Dear Genie & family. Cousin Al & you were very special to me. Even tho I didn’t see you much living in Jenison I saw Al at Spartan things when I worked in corporate office of Family Fare. Saw you both at Breakfast on Alpine a few times after I came back to the Westside. Great memories growing up wth Al. He always had a smile with a hug. One of the nicest guys I ever met. Loved living next door for a while - - I sure loved that smile and a nice hug when I would come to the VanAndel to see anything - - then find out where Genie was - - get another smile and hug and laugh. Knocked my socks off this morning. I did not have a clue. I am so sorry for your loss Genie - - He will certainly be missed by many. He touched so many hearts. Such a sweetheart. (We are leaving for Florida on Wednesday-Saturday) I have a friend I need to visit up on Pine Island - in a couple weeks - Hopefully I can catch you home and I'll stop by. I see that smile up there in the corner and cannot believe it - Rest in peace my friend Al. Hockey won't be the same. Nor concerts. LOVE Bob & Nancy VanderHave
