December 10, 1922 ~ June 25, 2020

Wiersma - Alyce Wiersma aged 97, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020 and now is living with her Savior in heaven. Her family is rejoicing with her as she joins her husband, Fred. Alyce is mother, to Carol (John) Poelstra, Ruth (Jim) Peterson, Joyce (Andy) Vander Meer, Donald (Carol) Wiersma, Bob (Gail) Wiersma; grandmother of 20, great grandmother of 21 and 2 great great grandsons. She is survived by her sister, Wilma Knoll, sister-in-law, May Knoll, many nieces and nephews and special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 1986, a son, 2 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She faithfully served her family and Lord, from her early days in Platte SD, to nurses training at Pine Rest where she met Fred on a blind date. Their home was always open - having served as foster parents for Bethany Home - to providing respite care for several people. Her faith was evident in the many Bible studies that she lead, prayer warrior ministry, years as Sunday School Superintendent, her amazing memorization of scripture, and the 4 weeks she spent in Merida, Mexico for 6 years with IDEA Ministries. Fred and Alyce were active charter members of Ideal Park church. Her life has touched so many people and her children do rise up and call her blessed. Her last nine years were lived at Samaritas, where she loved many and was loved by many. Her family is thankful for the care that she received and to Faith Hospice during the last years. A family graveside service will be held 1:00PM, Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Pine Hill Cemetery, Kentwood, MI with Pastor Chris Bouma officiating. Dear Wiersma family,  We rejoice with you in Alyce's homegoing and also express our sincere sympathy to you. We kids have fond memories of always being welcomed in your home and of the gentle kindness of your mother and father. We remember well your mother's smile, positivity, open-heartedness and sweet disposition along with her devotion to her God and to Ideal Park. She certainly was a blessing to all who knew her. I like to think Alyce and Fred are now enjoying a cup with Alice and Henry.  Love and Light to you all,  Anne (Wagenaar) and Don Feyen

Ephesians 1- "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment-to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ."....  These were the words that Alyce recited from memory to start most every prayer meeting. Alyce's Spirit filled prayers called down the very presence of God. She was a powerful intercessor, and I benefited from being the recipient of many of her prayers. We shared many prayer times together. Alyce loved others above herself. She memorized many scriptures, and prayed them with authority and power. I am so happy that Alyce is now in her eternal home enjoying the presence of her Lord. I hope her heavenly Father gives her the prayer assignment to continue praying for me - and for you!  God bless you and keep you dear family of Alyce as you lay her to rest today.  Mary Sterenberg

Alyce was my Christian mom when I was in my early 20s & stayed with her at her house on Clyde Park. She was always singing praises to God & studying his word. She was always kind, loving, & positive. I was a Christian when I met her, however she was the first person that showed me how to live that out on a daily basis. Alyce left an imprint on my heart I will never forget. Alyce was a reflection of Jesus'es love in my life. I'm sure she's dancing with the angels praising Jesus & Father God! May you, Alyce's family, feel God's comfort and love at this time. Dear Carol and Family   We got to know your Mother when we were members of Ideal Park CRC many years ago. A special memory is when she offered to take care of our little boy when our baby was in the hospital for a lengthy stay. She was a loving and caring person.  Sincerely yours, Gord and Saramae Vander Ark

Alyce was a wonderful neighbor of mine for several years at her condo. She was always so kind and genuinely cared about all who she knew. I would be the lucky recipient of her famous and delicious bread that she baked in soup cans. She was a real blessing to know.

I remember your mom quite well. She was a friend of my mom if I remember correctly. I also remember your dad. I didn't realize your mom was still living. My sympathies to you and your family. Most of you likely don't remember me, but may remember some of my younger siblings (Carol, Phyllis, Don, Donna, Evelyn, Joan (deceased), & Bill). My parents were Fred & Betty.

Alyce was a beautiful person, inside and out. She was so loving, especially to children. I grew up with the last name of Wiersma, and was a 2nd cousin of Fred. We lived in the same neighborhood and saw her often. She was always tickled to see us and always made us feel welcome. What beautiful memories you all must have. You were so blessed to have both of them for parents.

I remember living a couple doors over from the family and Carol and I played together often. Such a wonderful family and their Mom was the sweetest lady. The fact we were second cousins was secondary to her warmth and caring nature. What a blessing to have her all these years! Heaven is rejoicing and isn't it wonderful to know she will be at the gate waiting for each of you?! Thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Barb(and Larry) Steketee

Your mother was a wonderful person. I remember living in Byron Center across the street. We could always play at your house inside or outside, your mother didn't care. Lucy Rus Osenga
