Dottie’s greatest love of her life was her husband and family. She was a mother of 4, grandmother of 12, and great grandmother of 7. She and Stan, her husband of 61.5 years, worked in their dedicated professions to raise their family. Dottie was in the hospital business. At age 19, she started to work in a Lansing hospital. Their joint goal was to put together catholic educations for the kids, a family cottage in Mid Michigan, and a homestead in Downriver Detroit where they resided for 47 years. Over Dottie’s 39 year career, she was able to obtain her vehicles of choice, multiple beloved Cadillacs, travel the world, and spend countless weekends and summer vacations at the Bear Lake cottage with family. Where did she ever find the time to crochet over 50 afghans? No one knows! In addition, Dottie and Stan financed college for their children. In doing so, they gave up many other things for themselves. Dottie helped Stan with his Knights of Columbus “steak dinners” at the Flat Rock, Michigan K of C post, and they were active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rockwood all 47 years. As age goes, Dottie’s children asked her to quit work from the Oakwood Hospital Systems at age 73. They wanted her to enjoy life. Nearer to retirement, she and Stan wintered in Clearwater Beach, Florida for 22 years. After Stan passed away, she spent another 3 years in Palmetto, Florida in her own place. Her other passions were exercise, fishing with sons and grandsons, shopping, decorating her homes, cottage, and condo, and coordinating family events at the cottage. She will always be remembered for her grace, wit, love of family, and all of her selfless sacrifices. She will be missed! Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 20, 2019 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1120 4 Mile Road NE, Grand Rapids. My memory may be a little fuzzy on the exact details, but I believe Dottie and Gwen were sunbathing on their dock when I heard the blood curdling screams from them. I don't recall how many of us "boys" were there at the time- but I certainly remember the 4' snake that was also trying to sunbath on the dock with them at the time!! My deepest sympathy to Dana, Kent, Gwen, Lori, your spouses and children. Your Mom and Dad were great people and I cherish the memories we all created together growing up at Bear Lake. May they rest in peace together again. Dave Ruckle

Bob and I spent many days together with Uncle Stan and Aunt Dottie in Florida. We went to the horse track at least 2 -4 times every winter. I would always place Stan's bets because Dottie was too busy figuring out her bets and watching the odds board until the last possible minute. There were lots of lunches and dinners at Frenchies that I will never forget, lots of laughs. I will never forget how Dottie would always tell me to be nice to HER nephew if Bob and I were squabbling. I couldn't have asked for abetter Aunt /friend. than Dottie. She will be missed, never forgotten

The true Matriarch of one incredible family. Her quick wit, sharing of memories, and etiquette lessons made her a favorite of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Such a beautiful lady, respectfully tended to by four amazing children. So blessed to have known this family, especially sweet Dottie. Cheryl P
