Klaas Kapteyn aged 79 went to be with his Lord, Thursday, December 26, 2019. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deanna; son, Daniel Kapteyn; granddaughters, Rachael Morrison and Joy Deanne VanLaar. Klaas is survived by his wife of 26 years, Norma Stegenga Kapteyn; children, Laurie (Bruce) Morrison, Michael (Sally) Kapteyn, Amy Kortman and Rachael (Randy) VanLaar; stepchildren, Cindy (Doug) Lameyer, Scott (Shelly) Stegenga, Kurt (Sue) Stegenga; nineteen grandchildren, Jacque Morrison, Noah (Liz) Morrison, Ashley (Phil) Stone, Kevin Kapteyn, Jeff (Gayathri) Kortman, Greg (Tracy) Kortman, Kelsie Kortman, Jake (Abbey) VanLaar, Lucas VanLaar, Micah VanLaar, Lindsey (Joe) Dykhouse, Tyler (Kendra) Lameyer, Ashley (Eli) Anderson, Brittany Stegenga, Courtney Stegenga, Derek Stegenga, Bruce Stegenga, Autum (Sam) Moshauer and Libby “Liberty” Stegenga; twelve great grandchildren, Owen Morrison, Brielle Stone, Maya and Chloe Kortman, Will Kortman, Savanah, Tessa, Landon and Drew Dykhouse, Ryan and Lydia Lameyer, Maisie Moshauer; brothers, Peter Kapteyn, Hank (Betty) Kapteyn; sisters, Kay Kroll, Emma (Chuck) Strickland; also surviving are his brothers-in-law, Bern Lemmen, Maurie (Lorraine) Lemmen; many nieces and nephews. Klaas was active in each Church he was a member of, serving as Deacon, Elder and on several boards and committees. He was a member of the Kings Choraliers for more than 40 years, and was elected to the board several times. He was a skilled carpenter and a perfectionist by trade. Klaas built many homes and remodel projects in the West Michigan Area. He was involved in the HBA for many years and built several Parade Homes with his sons, Mike and Dan, who he was very proud that they followed him in the building trade. Klaas continued to enjoy woodworking after retiring, making many fine detailed projects including kayak’s, one of which was a top 100 entry in Art Prize in 2010. He had a love for animals and enjoyed the outdoors. Funeral services will be held 1:00PM Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Hudsonville Reformed Church, 3950 Highland Dr., Hudsonville with Pastor Don VanSlyke officiating. His family will greet relatives and friends Friday from 5PM to 7PM at the Stegenga Funeral Chapel - Wyoming, 3131 S. Division Ave., and from 11:30AM until 1:00PM Saturday at Church.
