PO0RT - Larry Gene Poort, age 75, went to his heavenly home on Friday, August 16, 2019. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Poort; sister, Kathleen Poort; son, John Derek Poort. Larry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cynthia Ann Philora Poort; children, Sheri (David) DeGraaf of Belmont, Steven (Tonia) Poort of Lancaster, PA, Benson (Rachelle) Poort of Jenison, Jason (Jennifer) Poort of Middleville, Lisa (Issac) Hunt of Rockford; grandchildren, Silas Steven (Cassandra) DeGraaf, Joshua David (Danielle) DeGraaf, Zacheriah Allen DeGraaf, John Philip DeGraaf, Seth Daniel DeGraaf, Nathan Douglas (Hannah Cantler) Poort, Sarah Nicole (Scott Andrew) Ursiny, Katie Marie Poort, Luke Nolan Poort, Carolyn Sue Poort, Claire Cynthia Poort, Caleb David Poort, Callie Jo Poort, Danielle Adeline Poort, Connor Sebastian Poort, Isaiah Harrison Poort, Caleb Mikol Councilor, Christian Robert Councilor, Eli William Councilor; great grandchildren, Madelynn Elizabeth Poort and Douglas Scott-Jay Ursiny ; mother, Marian Poort; sister, Sharon (Vince) Nevins; brother and sisters-in-law, Steve and Peggy Keller, Ruth and Michael Melford, Linda and Dan Koch; many nieces and nephews. Larry was a retired florist and member of Iron Rails Railroad Club where he enjoyed creating railroad layouts. He was an active member of Frontline Bible Church in Byron Center and was a member of the Gideons. Larry enjoyed gardening, bird watching, painting, aquariums, scrap booking, and jewelry making, but most of all, he loved spending time with each of his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 21 at Frontline Bible Church, 8283 Pfeiffer Farms Drive SW, Byron Center. His family will greet relatives and friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
