Leo Raymond Burke, 85, of Rockford, Michigan, passed away at home from cancer February 15, 2020. He was born December 27, 1934, to James and Martha Burke, in Beaverdale, PA. Leo was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Ruth (Umbauer); his parents, 7 brothers: Arthur, James, Charles, George, Anthony, Jack and Peter; and 2 sisters: Mary and Margaret. Leo will be greatly missed by his son, Kevin (Carolann); daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” (Pastor) Arzate; 9 grandchildren: Lindsay, Jay, Seth, Paul, Maria, Diana, Bryan, Joshua and Emmanuel; 2 great grandchildren: Jaina and Emrys; his brother, Michael; and many nieces and nephews. Leo did various jobs in PA and MI, including work in sawmills and making maple syrup. Leo settled in Rockford, MI and worked for Michigan plating and Stamping in Grand Rapids for 35 years. He enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing, playing harmonica and guitar, and building birdhouses for loved ones, and many people will remember the delicious scalloped potatoes he would make for reunions. Leo was blessed by wonderful friendships, including neighbors, especially Howard and Ruth, and with friends from work and the Senior Center, especially his nephew Charlie and his best friend Lucile. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont with fellowship and refreshment following the service.
