Maurice Keane

Keane - Maurice Patrick Keane passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 10, 2019 surrounded by family. Maurice was born in 1943 to Michael and Catherine (Sullivan) Keane in Brooklyn, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ann and Mary; brother-in-law Pat; niece, Tara; mother and father in-law Jesse and Erma Ketchum. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, of 53 years June; children, Kristine (Jeff) Ferguson, Laura (John) Daniels, Michael (Teresa) Keane, Marcia Keane, Angela Keane; grandchildren, Brett (Elizabeth) Ferguson, Kyle (Tuyen Thai) Ferguson, Haley Ferguson, Erik and Ryan Daniels, great grandson Killian Ferguson, special New York nephews, Michael, Stephen, Sean Cunniffe and their families, in-laws Sally (Dave) Orlow, Tom Ketchum and their families. Maurice (Doc) proudly served his country with the US Navy as a Corpsman in Vietnam and this was a big part of his identity. He was a member of the Grand Rapids Bagpipe Band, he retired from the Independent Order of Foresters. Maurice enjoyed camping, bowling, dancing with June and playing the bagpipes. His parents came from Ireland and Maurice made sure his kids knew their Irish roots and were able to visit Ireland. He was a character and known for his flipping of the bird, which his kids coined as his term of endearment. Funeral service will be held 11:00AM Friday, March 15, 2019 at Stegenga Funeral Chapel - Wyoming, 3131 S Division Ave, Wyoming. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4PM - 7PM Thursday and one-hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, Spectrum Health Hospice or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans for their wonderful care for almost 2 years, as well as Spectrum Health Hospice and Blodgett Hospital nurses and doctors for their compassionate care in keeping Maurice comfortable in his final days.
