Alan Sheets

November 4, 1940 ~ April 21, 2022

Well done, thy good and faithful servant. On April 21, 2022, Alan Burl Sheets was ushered into the Lord’s presence. Alan was born to Burl and Dora Sheets on November 4, 1940. While in high school and under the pastorship of Gerald Smith, Alan gave his life to Jesus Christ. This decision impacted him for the rest of his life. Alan was well loved. Preceding Alan in death was his first wife, Carol Dykstra Sheets. Surviving him is his second wife, Dottie Call Sheets. Also surviving him are his children, Andrew (Nida) Sheets, Albert John Sheets, Tedd (Jennifer) Sheets, Susan (Shadrack) Sheets Odo, Sheryl (Jerrel) Adams; foster daughter, Ruth Frasur; 21 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one arriving in June; brother, John (Evelyn) Sheets; sister-in-law, Kathleen Dykstra; four stepchildren, Bob Lanham, John Lanham, Lisa Davis, and Nicki Bingman and their families; many relatives and friends. Alan was the MARBC quiz director for many years. This act of service helped many youths across the state of Michigan have an opportunity to memorize God’s word and become closer to their Lord. Psalms 116:15 states, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” “Precious” is a wonderful word to describe our dad. A memorial service will be held on May 7 at 11:00 at Good News Baptist Church, 6830 Eastern Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508. Light refreshments will be served afterward. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good News Baptist Church Youth Program.

I had the pleasure of knowing Alan and spending time with him. I believe I met all his children, t[. He was a great man of God, and served Peace River Baptist church faithfully as long as he was able. Praying your memories will keep him alive in your hearts forever. I know you will all miss him, but glad he's with his savior, no more pain, hurts, or tears.

Uncle Al, I will miss you very much. Your love for God and family and your sense of humor. The fact that you always turned off your hearing aids when I came into a room. The text you sent from Florida showing the warm weather when it was freezing cold here. I am glad I got to see you and say my goodbyes month ago. Say hi to Aunt Carol and my Dad
