Alberta “Abby” Hoffman (Hannink), age 88, of Hudsonville, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Wow, don't know where to start. Aunt Abby was such a special lady to me, one of her nephews. This wonderful, fiery, funny, wise, confident, encouraging, compassionate, funny, super intelligent, determined, hard-working, amazing Christian woman, left an indelible mark on my life personally. There were so many instances where she, and Uncle Elmer as well, would show up out of the blue at our house in Fennville, and stay and visit with my mom & dad. Their visits were usually not brief, and believe me, they were so very welcome in our home, always. Part of it was the very close relationship between Elmer & my mom Mary, Elmer's baby sister. But there was more to it. They were such a wonderful couple, a team, loving & caring, and in conversations inevitably Abby's humor, intellect, and effervescence would be so evident. In other words, the room would always light up when she was present. It was almost magical. She was my very favorite aunt, truly. To say that I will miss her, which I already am, would be an understatement. There is most assuredly a hole in my heart that will never be filled and I don't doubt that this sentiment is shared by many others as well. She had the gift of gab, for sure, but more importantly, she had a rare gift of service to others that she wore proudly, almost as an extension of herself. I believe it was her God-given nature to live out James 4:10, "Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you." Rest now Aunt Abby, rest, in the glory of your Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ.

Abby was my supervisor in dietary in 70’s. Had tremendous respect for her not only as a person of leadership but also just as a person. My sincerest of sympathies to all.
