Alfred Elders, Sr.

Alfred Elders, Sr., age 98, of Grandville, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Alfred was a WWII veteran, serving in the Navy as a Seabee. He was a longtime resident of Grandville. He was a co-owner of Elders Electric and volunteered and supported several Christian organizations. Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; son-in-law, Gene Scholma; brothers John, Marvin, and Lewis; and many other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Fred and Carol Elders, Diane Scholma, Marcia Elders and David Apol, Duane and Linda Elders, Dale and Cathy Elders, Lori and John Oosterman; 30 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren on the way; sisters-in-law, Joanne Zylstra, and Cora Hoogerwerf; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Hazel Besselsen. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Hope Christian Reformed Church, 3110 Barrett St. SW, Grandville with Rev. Dale Fopma officiating. Burial Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Emmanuel Hospice.
