Burt Wickham Jr. passed away peacefully July 27, 2021 at the age of 89. Burt was the eldest son of June and Burt Wickham Sr. and was raised with his two brothers in Traverse City, Michigan. He excelled in high school sports and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on his grandfather’s farm. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950-1953. In 1958, he married his wife Donna and settled in Rockford where they raised three children. He spent time with his family on the beaches of Lake Michigan, taking trips to the U.P. and Canada, ice fishing, cross country skiing, rock hounding and hunting with his son. He was proceeded in death by his wife Donna, second wife Patricia, and brother Tom. While married to Patricia he enjoyed their life traveling and spending time in Florida with family and friends. Burt was a Land Surveyor in the Kent county area for many years and owned his own Land Surveying business. He was extremely knowledgeable about the land in many areas of Michigan and loved working outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, pick morel mushrooms, and play golf. He was known by many for his positive outgoing personality and he loved to socialize, joke, and tell stories. He spent his last few years enjoying his time at Bishop Hills in Rockford. We thank them for their excellent care. Burt is survived in death by children, Joseph Wickham (Julie), Amy Westgate (Bill), Angela Broderick (Dan); grandchildren, Cory Wickham, Helena Broderick; several nieces and nephews; step children, Ed Gillespie, Brenda Lopez; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed and never forgotten. A celebration of Burt’s life will be held at a later date. I also enjoyed getting to know Burt at Bishop Hills. I loved hearing all of his stories about his past and him always singing a tune to something and cracking jokes all the time. This man has made a huge impact on me I love him and for sure will miss the time spent with him.

My daughter Lizzy (who is 9) and I have been visiting with Burt for the past few years at Bishop Hills while visiting my mom. We fell in love with his great stories and humor. He will be surely missed and feel blessed to have known him!
