Cynthia Kanis

April 25, 1931 ~ February 7, 2021

Cynthia “Cindy’ Van Dyke Kanis, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8th, 2021 after a very brief illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her throughout her life and ultimately gave her peace.

Cindy was born to the late Jake and Tena Van Dyke on a farm near Sanborn, Iowa on April 26, 1931.

She married Rudolph Kanis in Worthington, Minnesota on December 12, 1950.They raised two children: Suzanne (Potter) and Ryan and enjoyed 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was immersed in the Christian community from an early age and developed a life-long love for inspirational gospel music. Her grandchildren were always very well dressed as a benefit of her many years working in the children’s retail apparel business. She and Rudy also enjoyed travelling throughout the United States including Alaska; as well as a trip to the Holy Land of Israel.

Cindy is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Potter, her son, Ryan, her grandchildren Cara Hodges, Nathan Potter, Brandon Potter, Madison Glashower, and Austin Kanis; her great grandchildren Clayton, Caroline, Catie, Chloe, and Caleb Hodges, Addy and Liam Potter, Adrian, Logan, and Jacob Potter, her brothers Jim and Ron, sister Fran, and sister-in-law Sue Kanis. She is preceded in death by her husband Rudy, her son-in-law Cal Potter, and her sister Terry.

She is dearly missed by her loved ones, but we celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Creator.

A private memorial service was held for the family in Jacksonville on February 11. Cindy will be buried at the Grandville (Michigan) Cemetery. The family gratefully declines flowers, but memorial gifts may be made to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted at www.stegengafuneralchapel.com.

Aunt Cindy was always kind to me and helped me pick out several outfits from the Rockabye Shop.  I know my parents enjoyed spending time with her and Rudy.  I am sorry for your loss and keeping your family in prayer.
