Dale Allen VanOverloop, age 79, of Comstock Park, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, June 11, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Jessica (Hoekstra) VanOverloop, Sister-in-law June VanOverloop. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Trent and Michelle VanOverloop, Deborah and Greg Wingerter, Timothy and Heidi VanOverloop, Kelli Chasteen and her partner Jeremy Larsen; grandchildren, Brice and Bradley Freestone, Quinton Wingerter, Justin, Kylee, Brady VanOverloop, Isabelle Chasteen; brother, Ken VanOverloop. Dale proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1962 to 1968. Dale loved the outdoors, especially riding his bike on the White Pine Trail. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at New Community Church, 2340 Dean Lake Ave NE, Grand Rapids, with Pastor Mark Kirsch officiating. Burial at Plainfield Twp Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, 6-8 pm at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Dr. Belmont, MI and one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Dales’s friend Harold called me and told the sad news of Dale’s passing, We had no idea since we didn’t see it in the paper or else we would have come to the funeral. We used to ride the White Pine Trail with him through the years and even went on kayak trips. Lots of fun (and stories) such as when he went over the small falls backwards in his kayak on the lower Rogue! LOL. Please know that we are also grieving his loss.
