Dorothy Dykstra

Dorothy Dykstra, age 100, of Grand Rapids, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Her gift to the world was to selflessly serve others, which was evident in her daily works. Dorothy’s strong faith allowed her to see the good in every situation even when it is tough. Living through WWII, immigrating to a country where she knew no one and didn’t speak the language, and living through the isolating COVID times were only a few of the obstacles Dorothy faced during her century of life. But through it all, she still found joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; son, Harry Dykstra; daughter-in-law, Kris Dykstra; sisters (and their spouse), Pietsje (Jan) Feenstra, Alie (Willem) van der Bij, Durkje (Johannes) Hager; and brothers, Sjirk van der Linde and Harmen van der Linde.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Jerry Dykstra, Richard (Paula) Dykstra, Stan Dykstra; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister (and spouse), Aagje (Reimer) Stelowagen; sister-in-law, Ingeltsje (van der Linde) van der Meulen; many nieces and nephews that reside in Europe and the US, including Gerrit (Anke) Dijkstra; and close friends, the Stelpstras, who are more like family than friends.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at MKD Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11 am. A private burial will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
