Dorothy Grace Phillips

Dorothy Grace Phillips, age 89, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2024. She was born to Cornelius and Josie (Verhaar) Koppenol in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born again at age 11 by knowing the Lord Jesus Christ. She went to Westside Christian Schools and later graduated from Union High School. She was a gifted pianist and she enjoyed accompanying her children and others at church. She also enjoyed knitting many treasures for her family and friends, cooking delicious food, and solving crossword puzzles. She worked at Gospel Folio Press for many years. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. 

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Jim; her children, Steve Phillips (Cynthia), Maryann Sullivan (Mark), Patty George (Matt); grandchildren, Daniel Phillips (Erin), Karen Phillips, Marcia Messacar (Hayden), Bryant George, Casey George; great-grandchildren, Leah Frey, Elliot Messacar, Weston Messacar, Madison Phillips, Grant Phillips, Lydia Phillips; sisters-in-law, Frances Dobrowolski, Rachel Livingston (Richard), Marge Fitzgerald, Patty Kahut; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Don Koppenol, Mart Koppenol; and sister, June Johnson.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024, at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, with Rev. Kurt Kiger officiating. Burial will be held at Plainfield Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 1-2 pm at the funeral home.
