Elkins - Edward Speyer Elkins, age 77, of Croton passed away peacefully on January 10th, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Ed was born in Grand Rapids, MI on November 9, 1943 and graduated from Kent City High School. He was a lifetime member of the Kent City/Croton community and had a large circle of relatives and friends. He spent most of his life working in sales on the road, but for many years called Croton his home. Ed was a long-time member of the American Legion, Croton Post. He enjoyed boating and had a passion for the Lions. He was always a super fan even on the dark days. He enjoyed being outdoors, vacationing in Florida and, most of all, being on the river he loved.
Ed is survived by his mother Dora Elkins of Croton, his sister Judy (John) Gerencer of White Cloud, and his daughter, Renee (Jim) Isenhart of Elk Rapids, MI. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Danielle (Wes) Jarmusch, Jared Isenhart, and Darica (Major) Bevis; and his love, Denise Peters-Smith of Newaygo, MI.
He was preceded in death by his father Volney Elkins, his daughter, Roxanne Elkins, his sister, Mary Empie, his brother, Volney “Chip” Elkins, and his grandson, Reece Isenhart.
Please memorialize Ed’s life by donations to the American Legion, Croton Post #381. A celebration of his life will be planned when we are able to join at the Legion in Kent City, details to follow. We hope that family and community members will join us in this celebration.
