Gene McKenney

Gene McKenney, age 78, of Allendale, was called to his heavenly home while he was surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 25, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Doyle McKenney and Gary McKenny; sisters-in-law, Marlene McKenney and Margie McKenney; and nephew Andy McKenney. Gene will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Bea; children, Tom (Theresa) McKenney, Mindy (Leonard) Beck; grandchildren, Brett McKenney, Kelsey McKenney, Bella Beck, Gibson Beck; siblings, Ken (Linda) McKenney, Randy McKenney; sisters-in-law, Norma McKenney, Doris (Larry) Leatherman, Gloria Wilcome, Marty (Andy) Behro, Linda Kryger, Susie Kryger, Karen Kuyers; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gene spent all of his working years with Bissell until he was able to retire at the age of 57. He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Gene was an excellent woodworker and craftsman and enjoyed tending to his vegetable gardens. He loved animals, especially his dogs. Gene loved classic cars and when it came to them, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix himself. Gene will be remembered for his great sense of humor and above all else his love for his family. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Allendale) 6651 Scott St. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Tuesday, August 27, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Michigan Chapter.
