GEORGE MARTIN VAN OEVEREN, JR.

11/19/1936 – 7/20/2021

George Martin passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Box) Van Oeveren, daughter Kristi Van Hoven, parents, George Martin and Marie (Van Boven) Van Oeveren.  George is survived by his daughter, Vicki (David) Shellen, son-in-law, Robert Van Hoven; grandchildren, Hannah (Raleigh) Rosales, Heather (Mike Bui) Van Hoven, David (Andrea) Van Hoven, Matthew (Sir Ling) Shellen, Brandon (Kate) Shellen; great grandchildren, Roman Rosales, Ezekiel Rosales, Eaton Shellen, Hailey Shellen, Thomas Van Hoven; sisters, Muriel (Roy) Brummel, Joan (William) McNellis; brother, Paul Van Oeveren; many special nieces, nephews and friends. George was actively involved at Third Reformed Church and Golden K Kiwanis Club Of GR.  He was a man of many interests and professions, his working life included Rapistan, Oak Industrial Credit Union, M & W Inc. and buying and selling antiques.  He was also past President of the Grand Rapids Ballet.  George loved to fish and cherished the time he spent with his family at the lake. Shirley and he were fortunate to have traveled quite extensively over the years.  Celebrating family birthdays and giving gifts to his grandchildren at Christmas were a big deal to George.  He will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Third Reformed Church of Grand Rapids.
