Geraldine Buurstra

February 1, 1934 ~ December 12, 2020

Mrs. Geraldine “Gerry” Buurstra aged 86 of Wyoming, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen F. Buurstra; parents, John and Jacoba VanHouten; brother, Arthur VanHouten. Surviving are her children, Jeff (Betsy) Buurstra, Jim (Missie) Buurstra, John (Debbie) Buurstra; grandchildren, Amanda (Alex) White, Allie (Simon) Bernard, Brittany (Jake) Rilett; Brad, Bruce, Drake, Cade, Blair Buurstra; great grandchildren, Brooke and Leon White, Tess Bernard; brothers, Melvin (Keiko) VanHouten, Roger (Shirley) VanHouten; sister, Joan Johnson; sister-in-law Amaryliss Buurstra; several nieces and nephews. Gerry was a faithful Detroit Tiger’s fan and loved watching her grandchildren's sporting events and spending time with her great grandchildren. In their retirement years Gerry and Owen took many trips in their motor home and spent several winters in Panama City Beach, FL. Gerry was a longtime member of Rogers Heights CRC and currently a member of Faith Community CRC. She retired from AAA after 35 years. Private family services were held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in Gerry’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Faith Community CRC. Cousins,
I remember your mom as one who was quick with a smile and one who loved to laugh.  I also remember her fondly for being a blessing to my mom after my dad had passed.  Gerry would come see mom from time to time and they often spoke on the phone.

Very sorry too hear this of dear Gerry….I worked with her a long time at AAA and she was a nice friendly lady…
She was always dressed for any holiday it seemed…Was a fun lady and good sport ...She
always seemed too keep in touch too invite for the retiree breakfasts…God Bless her family thru this time and RIP

Thank you, Fran and Cliff we also enjoyed your visits here in Michigan. I would have loved to take mom to Albuquerque for a visit with you but God had other plans. Betsy and I hope to visit someday.

I worked with Gerry at AAA for a number of years and really liked her.  Also had breakfasts/ lunches with her and some of the other AAA retires.  I will miss her very much.  My  thoughts and prayers are with you.

i enjoyed visiting with aunt Gerry so much. Her memory was incredible. To Jeff, Jim and Jon and spouses she was so proud of all of you. We enjoy visiting by phone and sharing memories of the Buurstra family so much. I will miss her. My condolences to all of you. May Gods peace and love enfold you.
