Helen Chernoby

October 29, 1928 ~ August 17, 2024

Ms. Helen Chernoby went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the age of 95. Throughout her life she was nothing short of a saint. Her sole focus was on helping others and providing for her family. Helen had a big family that loved her. She is survived by two of her children, Dawn and her husband, David Niven and Mark and his wife, Lesley Chernoby; grandchildren: Greg and his wife Sara, Katie Chernoby, and their mother Sherri Chernoby; Lucas and his wife Leah and Matthew Niven; step grandchildren, Shelby and her husband Michael Smith, Nicole and her husband Andy Davidson, and Andrew Meyers. Finally, five great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are her sisters-in-law, Peggy and JoAnne Nickels. A large family of nieces and nephews and their families — too numerous to list. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Thomas Nickels; husband, Michael Chernoby; son, Merlin Chernoby; five brothers and two sisters. As we say our final goodbyes, we remember Helen not just for the moments and humor that she shared with us but also for the immense love and kindness she brought into the world. Her faith and spirit will continue to live in our hearts guiding us with the warmth and compassion she so freely gave. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the impact of her love and joy will remain with us forever. Rest in peace Mom knowing that you were truly loved and your legacy of kindness will endure. The Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, MI, with viewing beginning at 9:30 am until the time of service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Michigan Audubon (she loved birds).
