Henry Dirkmaat, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 29, 2021. He is now with his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister. Henry is survived by his wife of 69 years, JoAnn Dirkmaat; children, William (Barb) Dirkmaat, Annette (Jon) Campbell, John (Holly) Dirkmaat, Judy (Michael) Marlette, grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Hannah (Jared) Henry, Kathryn, Calvin, Kaylee, Nicole (Chris) Lewis, Amanda, Gabriel; great grandchildren, Nola and Madeline. Henry came to America from the Netherlands in 1954 with his wife, JoAnn, and son, William. They settled in Grand Rapids to raise their family. Henry enjoyed woodworking and working with his hands as a millwright for various companies. He also loved cars, diesel engines, acquiring tools, and spending time as an owner of a campground in Shelby. In later years, he and JoAnn pulled a 5th wheel to Florida to spend winters in a warmer climate. His grandkids brought joy and smiles to him and he also had a soft spot for all animals. Henry had a quick wit about him and liked to tease his family. Funeral services will be held 11:30 am on Thursday, May 6 at New Community Church, 2340 Dean Lake Ave. NE. Family will greet relatives and friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Spectrum Health Hospice.
So glad to have have known you all my life, the time your family came to the farm in Jamestown in the 50s and 60s, the more recent times when May and I came to your place for coffee with you, Jopie, Bill and Barb and of course Tante Clara.
Jopie, my sincerest condolences and I pray for your peace and comfort.
As one who has lost their long time spouse, I understand the grief you are feeling. May the Lord hold you and carry you thru this time.
