Jacob “Jack” DeHaan

April 26, 1930 ~ August 14, 2022

Jack DeHaan passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Mission Point in Grandville. He was born in Grand Rapids in 1930, the last child of Barney and Lena (Olree) DeHaan. His siblings, all whom have preceded him in death, were H. Bernard (Helen), Adrian, William (June), Eileen (Gerald) Felix, and Richard. Jack graduated from Ottawa Hills High School and served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean Conflict. While serving he learned diesel engine repair and maintenance which served him well as he enjoyed a lengthy career as Area Manager for Peninsular Diesel Inc., in Grandville. His lifetime passions included golf, bowling and following the Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons and the hapless Lions. He served for many years as the treasurer and then president for the City of Wyoming Golf League, developing many lifelong friends along the way. When his “playing days” were over he continued to faithfully watch sports especially golf, the Tigers and the Red Wings on television. He was also an avid reader and especially enjoyed histories, including World War II, and biographies of historical personalities, including presidents and other world leaders. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and even great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews! The extended family would like to thank his many friends and regular acquaintances at Mr. Burger, the Rainbow Grill, the former Grand Villa and the neighbors at Wolf Lake (near Baldwin) for their kindness over the years. We also want to say thank you to the staff of Faith Hospice, especially Kathy and Haley, for their dedication to him and caring for his needs. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. The burial will take place at Garfield Park Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 1-2 p.m. prior to service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice.

Dear sweet, grumpy Jack, I know it was always an act. You were a joy to know! Your laughter could fill the dining room, and that twinkle in your eye will never be replaced! I wonder how earth will go on without the rascal you are! You were kind when it was needed, and heaven is blessed to have you! Live on in our hearts and memories, Betsy Bartleson
