Joan Touzel

September 13, 1959 ~ February 17, 2025

Joan Suzanne Touzel, age 65, of Byron Center, went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Marilyn Lindenthal. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 37 years, Steve Touzel; her daughter, Katie (Todd) Weatherbee; and her grandchildren, Lucy, Georgia, and Hank. She is also survived by her brothers, Pete (Maria) Lindenthal and Jeff (Brenda) Lindenthal, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who join in our grief.

After graduating from Rogers High School, she earned a degree from Davenport College and spent 12 years working at Foremost Insurance Company.

Joan was a woman of extraordinary kindness and humility. She never sought the spotlight, yet her presence lit up every room she entered. Her greatest joy came from the simple but profound love she had for her family and friends, especially her three grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend—always putting others before herself and offering support, humor, warmth, and wisdom to those who needed it most.

Her laughter, gentle spirit, and the way she made everyone feel special will never be forgotten. Though cancer took her from us too soon, it could never take away the love she gave so freely, the memories she created, or the legacy of kindness she leaves behind.

A private celebration of life will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to The Santa Claus Girls.

Steve, Katie, and Todd; we grieve for you and your loss. We have been praying for your mom, but I guess the Lord wanted to take her home. We have such fond memories of your family when we were neighbors in Hudsonville. Katie, you feel like one of my kids. I know that time has separated us, but you are always in my heart and you have a special place in my entire family’s hearts! I love to reminisce about the Katie stories. Your mom was always so sweet and gracious and giving. She will be greatly greatly missed. Lean on the Lord. Love you, Bill and Nancy Skilling

Dear Katie, I am so very sorry about the loss of your mom. I read that you are an only child as am I. I just recently lost my mom as well in December. It’s such a great loss and hard to wrap your head around. I wanted you to know I was thinking about you during this difficult time. Try to take time to cherish the memories and give yourself time to grieve. Talk about her often to your kids and flood them with memories they can hang on to. Sending hugs to you and your family.
