John Overmire, age 82, of Caledonia, wonderful and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Thursday, February 13, 2025. He was born June 9, 1942 to the late John and Ruth Overmire. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou and were married for over 49 years, a son, Boyd John Overmire; a son in-law, John Kalaska and a sister Ruthie Sumon.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Michelle Kalaska, Kristine Overmire; grandchildren, Rachael, Nathan, Carly Overmire, Sophia Wazed; great grandchildren, Brynlie and Bodie Lata; sisters and brothers, Jan and Den Wasco, Nancy and Jim Miller, Mary Richards, Donna Overmire, Francine and Doug Boone; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles "Chum" Luhrs, Carolyn and Dale Goddard, Paul and Pat Luhrs; special sister in-law, Susie Luhrs; and many nieces and nephews.
John loved to fish, especially in Canada and going deer hunting. One of the things that John truly loved was to have the family over in the back yard to barbecue and spend time in the water. He loved traveling to Baja with his wife and family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Tuesday, February 18 at Holy Family Church, 9669 Kraft Ave. SE, Caledonia, with Rev. Michael Cilibraise officiating. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 616 E. Main St. SE, Caledonia and at the church on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Holy Family Church.
