John Patrick Phillips, age 66, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Carol Phillips, and brother, Ricky Magarin. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 45 years, Barbara; sons, Shawn and Ashley Phillips, Patrick and Tara Phillips; grandchildren, Lilly, Matisyn, Callen, Murphy, Liam, and Elouise Phillips; siblings, Debbie Smith, Jimmy Magarin, Bo Magarin, Jeanette Magarin, and Lori Magarin; extended family and friends. John retired as a police officer in Pennsylvania after many years of service. He also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Phoenix Fire Company in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. He loved fishing and in his younger years hunting, but his true love was spending time with his family. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. Per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Zion Lutheran Church, 582 Lamoreaux Drive NW, Comstock Park, MI 49321.

I’m so sorry to hear of John’s passing. He was a great man and was always so kind to me when Shawn and I were in school. When I’d see him over the years when he was still in PA, he’d always take time to talk and catch up. My condolences to the whole family. He was truly one of a kind and he’ll be missed!

One of the best uncles a guy could ask for, I’ll never forget when we first flew to PA to meet uncle John and Aunt Barb and John was a police officer and closed me in a cell and I was terrified lol. I love ya uncle John and will miss you.
