Jovita Baker

March 31, 1933 ~ May 2, 2024

Jovita Jean (Janecek) Baker, age 91, of Allendale, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Jovita was born in Nebraska and was raised on her family’s farm before moving to Lansing, Michigan. She then met the love of her life, Robert, and they were married in 1955. Jovita and Robert moved to Allendale in 1971 where they raised their family. She retired from the U.S. Post Office in Allendale after 20 years of faithful service. Jovita was a kind and loving mom, grandma, and great-grandma who was blessed with a strong work ethic and independent spirit. She loved spending time outdoors gardening and working in her yard. Jovita had a love of animals and was affectionately known as “grandma woof-woof”. She was a big supporter of all her children and grandchildren’s activities, attending many sporting and school events. She was so proud and looking forward to her grandson’s ordination into the priesthood in the next month. Above all, her commitment to her family and her church was evident to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1980; her sister and brother-in-law, Georgianne and Gevain Thomison; brother and sister-in-law, Wilfred and Twila Janecek. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Tim and Cindy Baker, Todd and Lisa Baker; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Eric and Julie Baker (Kimber, Colt, Sage), Hayley and Brandin Sietsema, Kurtis and MacKenzie Baker (Brooks, Scottie), Deacon Nick Baker, Morgan Baker; brother and sister-in-law, Justin and Mary Janecek; many loving nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke University Parish, 10144 42nd Ave., Jenison, with Fr. Rob Mulderink and her grandson, Deacon Nick Baker, presiding. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. The burial will be held at Allendale Township Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Humane Society of West Michigan.

So sorry to hear of your Mom & Grandma's passing! I worked with JJ at the Allendale Post Office and took over her route when she retired! JJ was a wealth of knowledge and we had many laughs at work! Thanks for sharing her with me!
