Judith Frances Messing

​Judith Frances Messing passed away in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, on December 6, 2023, at Saint Lucie Medical Center. She was born on December 2, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of Robert and Martha Englebert. Judy attended elementary school in Cincinnati, Louisville and Lansing. She graduated from Marywood Academy in Grand Rapids and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Western Michigan University. She married Robert Messing in 1967. Judy found great joy in teaching and dedicated 30 years to the profession in Allendale, Michigan, and the surrounding areas. She began her retirement in 2002 and Robert and Judy moved to Port Saint Lucie where they enjoyed looking for treasures in antique shops, the beautiful weather and making long-lasting friends. Judy was a devout Catholic who embraced the Gospel as a way to live her life. She believed God is Love. Everyone was welcome in her classroom, her home and in her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Martha; her sister, Carol Engel; and her daughter, Catherine Ameel. She is survived by her husband, Robert; her children, Christina (Isaac) Mendoza, Mark (Nichole) Messing, Matthew (Taylor) Messing; four grandchildren, Isaiah Mendoza, Magnolia Mendoza, Celia Mendoza, Madeline Messing; and four sisters, Joyce Engelbert, Phyllis Ghering, Kathleen Casey and Roberta Coleman. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. Luke University Parish, 10144 42nd Ave. Jenison, 49428. A gathering of family and friends will be at 10:00 a.m. and a celebration of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Rob Mulderink officiating. Lunch will follow the Mass in the parish center.
