Judith Middleton

January 14, 1936 ~ March 1, 2022

Judith Ilene Middleton, age 86, went to be with her precious Savior on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Alma and Annie as the fourth of nine children. Judy was a loving sister and sister-in-law. She and her sisters loved getting together to play a very competitive game of Rummikub. She graduated from Kelloggsville High School and has been married for 67 years to Robert Middleton. In all the years of their marriage, she was a supportive and loving wife to Bob, helping him start and run Middleton Printing and Label as well as Enterprise Envelope. In retirement, they moved to Byron Center where for the past year, as Bob’s health declined, she cared for him at home with the help of family and caregivers. Together they raised their three children in Kentwood. She was a fun, loving, and mischievous mom, grandma, and GiGi. Judy poured her life and love into her family. She is known for how well she loved others, and her willingness to forgive, and as a result has made a huge impact by her example in the lives of many. She loved her neighbors, hosting craft sessions and pool days; in-laws, outlaws, stepfamily, adoptive, natural born, friends, neighbors, caregivers, hairdressers, Judy loved them all! Above all, she loved the Lord, Jesus, who she now dwells with whole and surrounded by His love. Many women have done well in fulfilling their roles while on this life journey, but to us, she surpassed them all. We will all miss her until we see her with Jesus. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Annie Dieterman; sisters, Joyce Thumm and Jenny Dieterman; and brother, Harry Dieterman. Surviving are her beloved husband, Robert Middleton Jr.; her children, Jan (Rick) Switzer, Deb (Eric) McGill, Steve (Cindelee) Middleton; grandchildren, Matthew (Alma) Switzer, Nathan (Tasha) Switzer, Simeon (Lindsay) Switzer, Anna Switzer, Carissa (Gregg Henry) O’Neill, Casey (Anna) O’Neill, Shana (Nathan) Lewis, Blake (Stephanie) Middleton, Brady Middleton, Bryten Middleton; bonus grandchildren, Aaron (Macy) McGill, Kinzie (Jake) Moffitt, Atalie (Dustin) Schwartz, Quinn McGill, Ben (Sarah) McGill; 31 beloved great-grandchildren; siblings, Merlin, Almer (Roberta), Doris, Dianne, Darla (Rolland); and sister-in-law, Irene. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. The burial will take place at Kent Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday, March 7, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Samaritan’s Purse.

How blessed we were to have you as our very first neighbors while being transferred from Ohio. Our children learned to swim in your pool! I will always cherish our walks together, our phone conversations, our Christmas visits/lunches, your radiant smile, caring words and always telling you… love you more! You will always hold a very special place in our hearts! 💝

There are no words for how much I love you. 🌹 I will miss our weekly phone calls and hearing at the very end of each call, "Sure do love you Rene". To know Judy was to love Judy.🌹🌹🌹

Dear sweet Aunt Judy was one of the most beautiful souls I have had the pleasure of being blessed by. She shared her love freely and deeply. Her infectious laughter and smile filled her surroundings with light and joy. She always gave more than she asked. She was kind, gentle, patient and wise. Her life reflected Christ to all who had the good fortune to know or meet her. She is missed already. Her precious life inspires me to desire Heaven all the more for the opportunity to share more time with this grace-filled soul I was lucky enough to call Aunt. To Uncle Bob, her children and their children, our love and prayers of peace and happy memories are with you. Thank you for sharing your wife, Mom and Grandma with us. God’s blessing and peace be with you all.
