Juna Verna Orefice-Wood, age 95, of Jenison, was called to her heavenly home on Friday, March 4, 2022. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carmelo; brother, Delton Hill; half brother and sisters: Sandra Hill, Jeanine Mager, Hunter Mager. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 25 years, Harold Wood; children: Joey (Julia) Orefice, Carmelo Jr. (Patricia) Orefice, Juno (Joanne) Orefice; grandchildren: Tracy, Carmelo III, Victoria, Christina, Tyler, Gianna; great grandchildren: Elayna, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Jenna, Madison, Isaiah, Willem, Leona; great great grandchild, Vincent; sister, Tara Hill Parisi; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Juna was a warm, caring, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She attended the Trenton School for the Deaf where she was an avid athlete and where she met and married Carmelo. They became Leaders of the Deaf and were very active in the Mt. Carmel Guild. She became an avid bowler in the deaf community well into her 90s and even had a tournament, the Juna V. Orefice Queens Tournament, named for her. Juna was a dedicated loyal employee of the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 30 years, and then moved to Michigan to be near her three sons. It was soon after that she married Harold. She played softball on the Deaf Team and was a scorekeeper for the Faith United Methodist Church team for many years. In retirement she loved to crochet, and she made many, many hats, scarves, and blankets for her family. Juna’s favorite color was purple. In remembrance of her love of purple, it is suggested that friends and family wear something purple. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with Rev. John Vallier presiding. Burial at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Crash’s Landing Cat Rescue Center, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (contributions will be designated for children’s camp), or UNICEF for Ukraine. Family encourages friends and family to wear face coverings.
