Larry Feist, age 80, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, August 3, 2024. He competed in the A.P.B.A. boat racing with his brother in the early 60’s. Larry loved spending his summers in Northern Michigan at Grand Marais where he enjoyed rock collecting and camping off the shores of Lake Superior. Summer evenings were spent enjoying the races at Berlin Raceway in Marne. You would often find him building boats or designing something new in his free time. With his passion for building things, Larry proudly served as Plainfield Township Building Inspector for almost 40 years. In his later years, he and MaryAnn moved to their cottage at Hardy Pond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Louise Feist; his brother, Ronald and Gloria Feist; parents-in-law, Henry and Josephine Fortuna; brothers-in-law, Joseph Fortuna, Henry Fortuna, Robert Luurtsema, and Allan Brown. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, MaryAnn; children, Laurie Quillan, Debra and Marty Logan, Dave and Diane Feist, Brian and Christine Feist; grandchildren, Dakota Brown, Caitlyn (Quillan) Zach Mundwiler, Emily Feist, Evelyn Feist; great-grandchildren, Kona Mundwiler; sisters, Nancy Brown, Susan Luurtsema; sisters-in-law, Marcia Fortuna, Mary Fortuna; and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery.
