Lorraine Niewiek Swainston

October 29, 1947 ~ February 24, 2022

Lorraine Niewiek Swainston, 74, entered into heaven on February 24, 2022. There to welcome her was her heavenly father and savior Jesus Christ, as well as many family members and friends whom arrived before her: daughter, Amie; father, Joe Niewiek; step-mother, Marilyn Niewiek; mother, Eileen Spaans; siblings: Joann Platz, Kay Wormley, Janice Veldhouse, Joe Niewiek Jr. and former husband, Norman Swainston the father of Jodie and Jamie. She will be lovingly remembered by: daughters, Jodie and Jamie Swainston, Marcia Gonzalez, Jessica Medina and Sue Lin; grandchildren: Justin (Xenia), Jordyn, Levi, Aaliyah, Tatiana, Adrianna, Jacob, Jordan, Jasper and David Jelsema; as well as great-grandchildren: Javier and Jeovani; brother, Thomas Niewiek. She had a very special place in her heart for friends that are family: Eddie and Marsha Shrider and family, Marge Palmerlee, Pat Avery, Sandy Samsel, Margaret Huckleberry (Huck), Mark Burg, Don Fletcher, Bill Cole, William and Susan Bolger, Debbie Figures and many others she truly loved. Lorraine graduated from Kentwood High School in 1966. Much later in life she earned her bachelor’s degree from GVSU. One of Lorraine’s early passions was the Tupperware industry which she dominated for over 15 years. She then started Precision Property Management in 1988. She was the owner, president and CEO of her own corporation, which brought her much satisfaction, joy and fulfillment being able to provide housing and working beside many great property owners. Lorraine has blessed many people with an open door to her home; the number is too great to recall all that were welcomed by her. She also worked with Bethany Christian Services as a foster mother for over 25 years and loved and considered so many more as her children. Lorraine’s passion in life was to help the homeless and less fortunate. She was a board member at Degage Ministries for many years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of her to Degage Ministries. A private family graveside service has taken place at Blain Township Cemetery. The family invites all friends and relatives to join them for a Celebration of Lorraine’s Life on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the Memories Reception Center of Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville, 49418.

Markers in the cemetery normally have two dates on them but in my contact list there is only one, the date my friend was born. True friends are forever. Not taking anything away from anyone but a True friend is hard to come by. In my childhood, my first True friend was my stepmother’s dad who excepted me as his own and known to me as Grampa, another is my school friend Ray who understood who I was, what I was made of, my limitations yet took me in as a brother when others ignored me. During my Military years I found no true friend but many that I could relate and rely on for many things. After those years, another true friend was added to my true friend list; he and family are dedicated to helping our Veterans. Included in my list, most important to me, is a lady that still stands beside me and cares for my heart, my loving wife; a person I must have taken for granted for many years prior. So, my list is short, Trust is an important part in the making of a True friend. Let us get to one more True Friend, Lorraine. When we meant, she wanted to go into business “Property Management” Who would think that working on a business plan would lead to a True friend for life? Lorraine was known to many as Mom. She had a house full that she raised and did so alone. As she built her business “Precision Property Management” many more called her Mom. Her business was taking care of properties belonging to others. She did that but she also took care of the people that paid the rent and to many of them she was called Mom. She was Trusted. My friend shared her heart with many many people. She helped them in many ways. Most never knew what she did other than run the business of PPM. She had no need to receive the glory of what she did for others. She told me “Satisfaction of being able to help was all she needed to keep going”. How she could manage so much, she had to have help from our Lord who she believed in. When Lorraine introduced me to others, over the years, she did so by stating this is my Maintenance Man. That was something I did often through the years. Fact is we sat in my van at Burger King across for the Big Boy downtown and drafted the PPM Maintenance Program and talked about how the business could grow. At that time, the big fact stressed was, the business could only be as good as the people that run it. She took care of those that worked with her. Dinners, vacations, and yes, be a Mom when needed. Her business grew with many trusting in her. To my True Friend Lorraine, I will miss you, but you will remain in my contact list and always be in my heart. We will meet again, and I will update you, as always, on how my family is doing. I and the many you took care of, thank you for being you. To Lorraine’s family, God Bless, Be Well, and Be Safe. Don

I originally met Lorraine when I bought a condo in one of the developments her office managed. She was one of the best people to deal with, and had a very capable, competent staff, who were also pleasant to deal with. She will truly be missed by more than can be counted!!
