Mae Lizzie Burrel, age 91, of Grand Rapids, was called home by her Lord on Sunday, September 11, 2022. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved to fish, cook, garden, and care for her family most of all. She was the greatest mother her kids could have asked for, moving from Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1952 and working hard to provide for them. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Burrel; children, James Burrel, Sylvester Burrel, Lester Burrel, Ernestine May; and her eight siblings. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Annie Taylor, L.C. a.k.a. Shorty Burrel, Ricky (Pam) Burrel; brother, Jimmy Carter; sister, Eunice a.k.a. Willie Carter; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held 10 am Wednesday, September 21 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood. Burial will be held at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 4-6 pm and on Wednesday from 9-10 am at the funeral home.
