Mae Visser, age 94, of Jenison, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 11, 2023. Mae was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who dearly treasured her family. Over the years, she enjoyed the fun and fellowship with many friends and her family. Mae had a competitive spirit to her where she always seemed to have the winning edge of playing games, golfing, and even softball in her earlier years. Mae served her Lord with her time and talents in various ways both in her community and at her church. Above all, her love for Jesus and her family was evident to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Melvin, and her son-in-law, Doug Wieringa. Mae will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mic and Steve Jurgens, Mitch and Lynn Visser, Melinda Wieringa, Mike Visser; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Heather and Troy Collins (Carleigh and Ryan Ritzema (Remi Mae), Chandler, and Clayton Collins), Heath and Jodie Jurgens (Ashton, Reagan, Ainsley, Thatcher, and Tahlia), Heidi and Nate VanderMale (Caleb and Aubrie VanderMale (Charlotte), Annica, and Elianna), Kate and Brian Peterson (Grant, Lindsey), Justin and Nicole Visser (Megan, Cole, Andrea, Emily), Jeremy and Marie Visser (Geneva, Owen, Grace), Gwen and Ben Kloosterman (Violet, Sylvia, Vivian, Preston), Aaron and Kari Wieringa (Cohen, Landen, Maika), Kelly and Katlyn Wieringa (Emerson, Aletta, Eva); her sister, Ina Jenison; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Earl Caulkins; extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Bethel United Reformed Church, 8360 Cottonwood Dr., Jenison with her grandson, Rev. Jeremy Visser officiating. Burial will take place at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday 4-5:45 pm prior to the service at church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to a Christian School of one’s choice. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Faith Hospice and to Julie and staff at American House for the love and compassionate care given to Mae.
