Michael D. McDonald

August 22, 1950 ~ May 2, 2023

Michael D. McDonald (Rabbit), age 72, longtime resident of Caledonia, MI and Phoenix, AZ, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, after an extended illness. Mike graduated from Caledonia High School in 1969. He was a proud 10-year veteran of the United States Coast Guard, and a staunch University of Michigan Wolverine fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Carleen, and brothers, Rob and David. He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Annie (Danny), Melanie (Dan), Jenni (Joe) and Dan (Darren), close lifelong friends Mark, Jamie, Faye, John, Randy, and Karen, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his extended family Lori, Dylan, TJ, Navaya, Sarah and Mark. Mike, or “Rabbit” as he was known to his closest family and friends, will always be remembered for his kind heart and his silly sense of humor. One of his favorite jokes was “A horse walks into a bar; the bartender says ‘Hey, why the long face?’” Family and friends will receive visitors on Friday morning, May 12, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 9669 Kraft Ave. SE, Caledonia. A memorial mass and luncheon will follow. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Sunday, July 9 at Caledonia Lakeside Park. In lieu of flowers, as Mike was a huge advocate for rescue animals, we ask that you give a donation in his name to his favorite rescue organization, Ellijay Paws In Need or to an animal rescue or charity that is close to your heart.
