Opal May Dickerson

Opal May Dickerson, age 87, of Grand Rapids, passed quietly into the arms of Jesus surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Opal was a huge Nascar fan, never missing a Sunday race. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dickerson; daughter, Renee Van Gilst; grandson, Matthew Dickerson; parents, Charles and Iva Martz; brother, John Martz. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, James (Karen) Dickerson Jr., Doug (Debbie) Dickerson, Patricia (Boris) Nenoff; son-in-law, Jon Van Gilst; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kari) Nenoff, James (Emily) Dickerson III, Amanda Nenoff, Melissa Dickerson, Kyle Dickerson, Sabrina (Rehn) Boyer; great grandchildren, James Dickerson IV, Theresa Dickerson, Sydnie Dickerson, Kaileigh Nenoff, Kaleb Nenoff; sisters, Charlotte Holiday, Janice Holtzlander. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 10 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project.
