Paul Achterhof

Paul Edward Achterhof, age 85, passed away on Tuesday June 14, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Doris. Paul is survived by his son, Jon (Rebecca); daughter, Becky; grandchildren, Nicole, Cassie, Mike, Lexi, Lukas, and Reid; brother, Jim; and sister, Arlyn. Paul attended Calvin College where he received a music teaching degree. He went on to work for Christian schools in Pella, Palos Heights, and Jenison. During his time in Palos Heights, he obtained a master’s degree in music education. At the end of his teaching career, Paul began pursuing the building trades. Starting with painting, he eventually became quite prolific as a builder of condos, single family homes, and even a small commercial venture. Paul was a working man. He had very little ego to go with his huge heart. Those who knew him would tell you that he was kind, generous, patient, and loving. Helping his children, his grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren was what made him happy. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
