Phyllis (VanKoevering) O’Brien passed away peacefully November 25, 2021. She is survived by her son, Mark O’Brien and daughter, Linda WIlhoit, five grandsons, and 6 great-grandchildren. Phyllis endured the losses of her husband, Steve O’Brien (1987), her daughter, Sue Gibbs (2015), grandson, Michael Wilhoit (2013) and most recently her longtime companion Harold Jaeger (2021). She told stories of Ramona Park, selling tickets for performances at the Civic Theater, working for Fred & Lena Meijer starting in the late 1970’s in the cafeteria and so much more with her 93 years of life! She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She had a witty sense of humor and always acted like she didn’t have a care in the world. Calls or a chat over coffee were sure to be a hoot. Phyllis was well taken care of at The Oaks the past 2 years. A celebration of life will be Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11am at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, MI 49306, with visitation from 10 am until the time of the service at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of West Michigan. Online condolences may be left at www.stegengafuneralchapel.com.
I miss you so much grandma. I can still remember playing with the toy radio transformer as a kid when dad, mom, and I would visit. It’s going to hurt not seeing you, but I know how badly you wanted to go ‘home’. May you rest in peace. Love you, always.
