Rachel Bean, age 41, of Caledonia, went to her heavenly home on Monday, February 17, 2025. Rachel came to the U.S. as a baby from Korea at the age of 2.5 months old. She was raised in Minnesota, Kansas, and Nebraska, where she called home for many years and attended college. She spent years in Chicago working at several restaurants, including Tavern at the Park, where she met the love of her life, Allen. She had a heart to help others and was learning and striving to help others in need. She enjoyed cooking, the arts, including ballet and attending the Nutcracker every Christmas. She also enjoyed shopping at the Dollar Tree for a bargain. Most of all, she loved being with her family and raising her son, Hudson.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 11 years, Allen; son, Hudson; parents: Allen and Jeannette Bean; sister, Sarah (Brad) Coughlin; mother-in-law, Sharron Chu; father-in-law, Zooey Chu; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Christopher (Heidi) Chu, Sydney Chu, Stephanie (June) Roberts; many nieces and nephews, including Meghan and Connor Coughlin.
Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday, February 23 from 2-5 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 616 E. Main St. SE, Caledonia. We remember Rachel as a baby coming into the lives of her parents and our church family in MN. We have not seen Rachel since her sisters wedding in NE. She always had a joyful smile, her giggle, outstretched arms and playfulness as a toddler. At Sarah's wedding, we remember a lovely young lady with a greeting and smile for us whom she had not seen for a few years.
We see from the photo, she has not lost that great smile. Our prayers and condolences to family and friends who were privileged to know her while on this journey of life.

You were not only a joy to be around for the short time I knew you, but you lifted up all your friend’s spirits when you were around. I hope you’re able to be at peace now. We’ll all miss you, but I know you’ll still be with us.

I knew Rachel for a brief time in December last year. She was very kind to me, and she had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed smiling and laughing, and I always enjoyed her company. I miss her greatly, and I wish the very best for her family.

We were in the same Dharma Recovery group. I thought she was doing great. It saddens me. She had so much.

I worked at Cheesecake factory in Chicago with Rachel. We always had new people who joined us but very few made it as a full patch family member but Rachel did in no time at all. She was incredibly joyful to be around and could always laugh at herself to which I consider the greatest human attribute. I know I speak for all of us that were lucky to work and be friends with Rachel when I say how terrible this news is and how much we are all grieving with your family. God bless you all.

We first met Rachel at Bonefish. Over time, a friendship developed that included spending time around our pool with Rachel, Chu, and Hudson. We will always remember Rachel for her bright smile, friendship, and eagerness to talk about Chu and Hudson who she loved deeply.

I loved Rachel so much, she was a close friend of mine even though we kind of lost touch in the last year. She was a beautiful, intelligent, hilarious, caring woman. She touched so many peoples lives and hearts. She will be dearly missed but forever in our memories and in our hearts. I’m beyond grateful that I was given the opportunity and chance to know her and to love her. My condolences go to her son, Hudson, and her husband Allen and the rest of her family. She was an unforgettable human, one of the best ones I knew.
