Robert Alan Werkhoven

May 2, 1951 ~ December 14, 2023

Robert “Bob” Werkhoven, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 14, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born May 2, 1951 to Clarence “Bud” and Lois Werkhoven. Bob graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High in 1969. Shortly after graduating, he met the love of his life, Lori, at a New Year’s Eve party. They were married in 1972. Prior to getting married, he enlisted in the Army Reserve and served for six years. A couple of years into their marriage they started their family with the birth of their son, Luke, followed a couple of years later by the birth of their daughter, Tara. Bob was a proud co-owner of Ivanrest True Value Hardware Store, a business that his father and grandfather started over 65 years ago. He was particularly proud of the excellent customer service they provided; customers were always greeted within seconds of entering the store to see how they could be helped. He was a man of faith who was a member of Westview Christian Reformed Church from birth. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Lois Werkhoven, and his brother-in-law, Ed Hager. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lori Werkhoven; children, Luke and Sophie Werkhoven, and Tara Werkhoven; his two best buddies, his grandsons, Sam and Kaitlyn Werkhoven, and Nolan Werkhoven; sister, Karen and Gary Klein; brother, Dave Werkhoven; niece, Kristyn and Joel Kragt. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Martha Besteman; brothers-in-law, Gary and Shirley Besteman, Dave and Dottie Besteman, Steve and Marcia Besteman, Brad and Pati Besteman; sisters-in-law, Lynn Bengelink, and Jeanne Besteman; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday, December 18, 2023 from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. A private family funeral service will be held. Burial will take place at Rosedale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Westview Christian Reformed Building Fund or Corewell Health Cancer Research program.
