Robert Arthur Klein

October 3, 1944 ~ April 16, 2024

Robert A. Klein, aged 79, of Walker, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Bob was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather who would do anything for his family. Bob was a Vietnam War veteran, proudly serving his country in the US Army. He worked as a quarry machine operator, received a sharp shooter medal and also the good conduct medal. Bob proudly flew the American flag and encouraged others to raise the flag for their country. He retired from General Motors after over 30 years of dedicated service as a pipe fitter. He was blessed to work with his family there, and had great friendships with the guys he worked with. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing on the PIne River, and in his younger years, he enjoyed salmon fishing on Lake Michigan. Through his love of the outdoors, he encouraged and taught his son and grandsons to fish. He also had a love of sports, especially watching his favorite football and baseball teams. He will be fondly remembered for his laughter, and his “famous” super loud singing Christmas Tree! Bob’s favorite place in Michigan was the cabin he built with his grandfather. He spent countless hours tinkering around, making sure that everything was the way it worked best. There were always notes and reminders that came with staying at the cabin. Bob would report back to anyone he could to let them know how many deer and wild turkey he spotted each day. He enjoyed talking with many of his neighbors near the cabin and pretty soon they were also flying American flags in front of their places. With his typical giving heart, he always would be willing to give up his time at the cabin for his kids if they wanted to use it. The wildlife, solitude, friendships, and natural beauty are what made him long to be “up north”, and will forever be a place to remember and cherish his memory. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol; his children, Krista and Michael Walters, Luke and Heather Klein; his grandson’s who always put a smile on his face, Max, Landon, and Cooper. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kay Shultz. At Bob’s request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date. The family requested that memorial donations be made in Bob’s honor to Grand Rapids Finish the Mission - a local non-profit organization that helps with needs of local veterans (finishthemissiongr.org).
