Robert Schafer

Robert Roy Schafer, age 88, of Coopersville, born on August 31, 1935, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, and was called to his heavenly home. Robert was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was blessed with a strong work ethic. He retired from Leigh Products after 27 years of faithful service and also enjoyed farming. Robert enjoyed collecting coins, going to antiques shows, and John Deere tractors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mildred Schafer; brother, James Schafer; half-brother, Arthur Sullivan; and nephew, Earl Schafer. He is survived by his children, Gregory (Tammy) Schafer, Christine (Robert) Sandling, Kerri Schafer (Greg Cody); 5 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sister, Alice Gage; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 17, at 3 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf, 6651 Scott St., Allendale, with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. The burial will be held at Coopersville Polkton Cemetery.
