Roberto Cardenas

June 17, 1961 ~ December 14, 2023

Roberto Cardenas, a beautiful life cut short. On December 14, 2023 our family lost our rock. Bobby C. was a loving husband to Jane, father to Kaylina (Chris), Miguel, and Roberto Jr. (Presley), grandfather to Christina, Christopher, Adriana, and Gabriella, brother to Belinda Cardenas. He was a loyal friend, neighbor, and colleague who left a lasting impression on everyone in his community. Bobby C. retired on July 29, 2022 after 33 years of proudly serving as a USPS letter carrier. The Friday after Thanksgiving, he was taken to the hospital unexpectedly and his fight began. He fought hard each day for 2+ weeks, yet still managed to exude that charisma we’ve all grown to cherish. The fight he had in him up to his last breath was inspiring to us all. Bobby C. was as selfless as they come and touched everyone fortunate enough to meet him. “Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.” We miss you; we will always love you, and we will carry on your legacy. Please join us in celebrating the beautiful life of the greatest man we’ve known. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, December 22 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, with Rev. John Vallier officiating. A luncheon will follow at Wyoming Harbor Church, 2141 Porter St. SW, Wyoming. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, December 21 from 4-8 pm at the funeral home for visitation and one hour prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.

I met Bobby a few years ago when he started delivering my mail. I was retired and usually we'd exchange pleasantries a few days a week. I enjoyed sharing tomatoes from my plants with him because he really loved getting them. After he retired we stayed in touch and I really enjoyed our conversations when he'd stop for a visit. My sincere condolences to Bobby's family.

Roberto, Bobby C, or simply C, you left us far too soon but your spirit will live on in all of us. Thank you for your friendship and ALL the laughs. (And all the Stooge clips.) You made work very fun and enjoyable; who could ask for any more than that? ¡Vaya con Dios, mi herman-o! Save me a 'winduh' seat. Jane and family - our hearts go out to all of you.

Dear Jane and family. My Heart breaks with the passing of my life long firend. Bobby and I had a lot of great time growing up on the south end of Flint. Spending the summers either at McKinley play ball or at Linclon park swiming at the public pool. I will never forget being teamates on that 1978 State Championship team, something we talked about and dreamed of doing even in middle school. I could write a book on all the times we had. one thing I will never forget is Bobby telling me a corny joke expecting me to laugh. after hearing him laugh at his own joke, then I had to laugh. That laugh, i will always remember. One day I would like to sit down and tell your family about all those great times. With much love, Ron & Lynette Scott
