Rodney Roy McCrary

Rodney Roy McCrary, age 73, of Kentwood, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022, in the loving care of his family. Rod grew up in Saginaw and went to Arthur Hill High School. He raised his family in Caseville, Michigan and moved to Grand Rapids in 1992. He retired after 20 years of service for Michigan Veteran Homes of Grand Rapids. Rod was proud to be a member and president of the Union. He cherished spending time with his kids, grandsons and extended family. His favorite pastimes included watching his grandsons’ sports games, watching the Detroit Tigers (and watching the Detroit Lions lose), going out to eat, or playing ball. He will be especially missed for his sense of humor, friendship, generous heart and his love and pride in his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rolland and Ila Mae McCrary; sister, Tina Gee; brother-in-law, Antonio Vescio and nephew, Dennis David Durek Jr. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Michael McCrary, Stacey (Robert) Brandow; grandsons, Lucas and Gavin Brandow; siblings, Mary Jo (Dennis) Durek, Debra Chinery, Kathy Rourke; nieces and nephews, Melissa (Shawn), Fred, Tony, Angelina, Carey (Diane), Duane, Shawn; many great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood. Relatives and friends may meet the family for visitation on Friday, December 2, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home, as well as an hour prior to the service on Saturday.
