Roger Dean Loring, a lifelong resident of Caledonia, passed away on April 9, 2024. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Nichole, his sister Judy (Gary), his nephews Dennis and Jon (Arianna), and niece Julia (Max), along with all their children. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Doris Loring, and his brother Jack Loring, Jr. Roger loved his family and he loved Caledonia. He worked for the village for many many years, and when he wasn’t working there, you would find him helping out with Caledonia athletics. He proudly wore his purple and gold and loved spending Friday nights watching the Fighting Scots play. He loved this community and was so proud to be able to help wherever and whenever he could. Roger later went on to help with Davenport football as well. He loved being a part of the chain gang. Roger also loved MSU sports. His favorite greeting was - Go Green! (And the correct response is of course - Go White!) Growing up, Roger and his family traveled to the Upper Peninsula each summer, and this started his lifelong love of what he referred to as God’s Country. Roger used to say that as soon as you passed over the bridge, all your problems went away. He also loved to hunt. Even this past fall, while in the hospital, he begged his nurses to let him out for opening day. To the delight of all that knew him as Santa, Roger had the best long white beard and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was the perfect Santa. All December long he would wear a Santa hat around town, and quite often children would approach him and excitedly tell Santa their wishes. (His nephews and nieces were even able to experience Santa coming for Christmas dinner!) We know that Roger will be with us in spirit during every game, every trip over the bridge, and every casino win! Until we see you again Big Rog.
