Roy DuPraw, age 91, of Kentwood, passed into God’s presence on Thursday, November 16, 2023. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeane Falls, and his daughter-in-law, Lorie DuPraw. Roy will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Eleanor; children, Jeffrey and Carol DuPraw, Deborah and Andy Hoadley, Katherine and John Korolewicz, and Christine and John Boonzaijer; thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren; siblings, Ann Schatzle, Judy Ockun, Christine and Mike Patrick; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; extended family and friends. Roy was a loving husband of 66 years to Eleanor and a caring family man. He was a good neighbor to everyone. Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving as a surgical technician.

Roy was a great story-teller as well as a great listener. He was a man of action and of few words. He was known for his good nature and his sense of humor. He drew the admiration of all. Games were always a favorite, especially Sequence with his wife during a quiet evening.

Roy was a proud self-employed painter who enjoyed passing on his craft to all interested apprentices, and he worked well into his eighties. He exercised constantly to stay in shape, starting at age 12. He was a regular customer at Seven’s and was always up for a cup of coffee at Cheshire’s Restaurant. Roy was a great encourager, and always had a positive word. In his presence one always felt understood, accepted, and loved. With Roy in your corner, you were never alone.

Roy dedicated his life to Christ at Grace Immanuel Reformed Baptist Church where he became a member when he was 80. He loved worshiping with his church family in his later years.

Memorial services will be held at 11am Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Kentwood Baptist Church, 2875 52nd St. SE, Kentwood, MI 49508 with Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grace Immanuel Reformed Baptist Church in memory of Roy DuPraw. Please share your own stories or memories through Roy’s webpage on the funeral home’s website. They will be saved and cherished.

I waited on Roy for 17 years while working at Sevens Paint and Wallpaper and always looked forward to when he would come in to share stories, painting advice, and often he brought the staff treats or lunch and generally speaking, spoiled us rotten. He actually helped us paint the exterior of our first house, but wouldn't let us pay him anything for his time, and the next house we moved to, he painted our entire main floor including cathedral ceilings and was up on scaffolding at what had to be close to 80 years old. I loved him like a Grandpa and it thrills my soul to learn of his faith in Christ! He will always be remembered fondly by my husband and I!

My favorite memory of Uncle Roy is a story that I have told throughout the past ten years to so many people, ever since my dad passed away. When my dad first entered a nursing home, the insurance flat out denied him physical therapy, which was heartbreaking. We knew that it would make him walk again and give him a better quality of life. When Uncle Roy found out, he jumped on a plane in Michigan and flew down to Boynton Beach, Florida. My mom, the eldest of the siblings, cried and cried with relief when she saw him. Uncle Roy went every day to see my dad and worked his legs like a professional physical therapist—-resulting in total mobility!! He didn’t stop until dad could walk. Uncle Roy’s acts of kindness inspired me. A true hero. He will be dearly missed. Monica

Loved Odie. He and my dad, Hank Swart, were a pair to draw to (as my dad would say). Bless you on your way, Odie.

Roy was a good friend of my father, Hank Swart. They had hundreds of cups of coffee at Sweetlands! Rest in peace, Roy, aka Odie!!! Thanks for being such a good person💗.
