Spencer Joseph Pletzke, age 20, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 16, 2001.
Spencer will be lovingly remembered by his parents Randy and Mary Jo Pletzke; siblings: Brett, Kyle, Alyssa and Mariah Pletzke; grandparents: Thomas and Mary Jane Auman, Pat and Edith Patterson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Spencer loved being with his family, friends, and spending time outside. His happiest moments came from playing sports, playing baseball at the West MI Miracle League field, hunting and, most of all, fishing.
Everyone will remember Spencer for his loving heart, his constant giving of gifts, his huge smile, and his unmatched ability to make everyone he was with feel loved. Spencer’s laugh was infectious and his big bear hugs made everything better. The world is a better place having had Spencer in it. He will be immensely missed by the countless people he has had an impact on.
Much of Spencer’s joy came from playing baseball at the Miracle League Field in Rockford. If you are considering sending flowers, the family asks that you might instead consider making a donation to the West Michigan Miracle League by visiting their website https://wmml.org/donate/ or by sending donations to 1878 Suntree Ln, Zeeland, MI 49464. Donation envelopes will also be available at the visitation and service.
The family would like to thank Forest Hills Pediatrics, especially Rebekah, Helen Devos Nursing staff, and Spectrum Health Palliative & Hospice Home Care for the tremendous care they provided Spencer. Spencer loved his care teams.
Spencer’s family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday, Oct 3, 2021 from 12:00 - 3:00 PM and 5:00 - 7:00 PM, with a Rosary Service to be held at 7:00 PM at Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 4, 2021 at Our Lady of Consolation Parish, 4865 11 Mile Road NE, Rockford with Father Tony Russo officiating. A visitation will also take place at the church prior to the Mass from 9:30 - 11:00 AM.
Simply put, Spencer Pletzke was my hero. He never complained, never had a bad word to say about anyone, and always had a smile on his face. No matter what he was dealing with, he was always upbeat and positive. He put other’s feelings and needs before his own. Spencer’s compassion and maturity far exceeded his young age. He loved everyone around him, especially his family. He idolized Brett; he enjoyed exploring the world with Kyle; he laughed deeply with Alyssa; and he loved his very best friend on this earth: the loving, giving Mariah. Mary Jo dedicated her life to all of her children, but she sincerely put Spencer’s desires before her own, with the encouraging, ongoing support of every one of her other selfless children. That was a wonderful, ongoing gift from the special Pletzke children. They always knew that Spencer was special, from the day he was born. The family celebrated him every day, and will continue to do so until they join him in his new home in paradise. There will never be another Spencer. His memory will live on through his loving, generous family.

Spencer was little bro to me I was blessed to have been able to watch him play basketball, try to beat me in video games, and always kept a smile on his face when I came to visit him. He was a beautiful soul and he and his family will always be loved by me 🖤
